A Mexican Menu With Vegas Ingredients

The menu at Gonzalez y Gonzalez is mostly what you would assume it to be – filled with classic Mexican-American dishes. What you might not expect are the Las Vegas ingredients that make some of these dishes stand out from your typical Mexican Restaurant.

Below is a look through each section of the menu and what type of items you should keep your eye on.

Appetizers

Gonzalez y Gonzalez has a large number of appetizers to get your party’s taste buds salivating before the big entrees. For a delicious snack and fun presentation, get the Tableside Guacamole which is made fresh in front of you. Other chip-based favorites are the Chips and Salsa and GYG Chips & Dip Trio, which comes with chile con queso, tomatillo salsa, and roasted tomato salsa.

The Sopes are something you won’t find often at restaurants off the strip and you can’t go wrong with the Gonzalez Nachos or Quesadilla. Prices range wildly from $4.95 for the chips and salsa up to $17.50 for ceviche.

Soups and Salads

Unlike most menus in Vegas, Gonzalez y Gonzalez gives you a surprisingly large number of soups and salads to choose from. The Classic Tortilla Soup and Pozole are your two warm choices but the salads have a good variety and can even double as an entree.

The Burrito Bowl is similar to what you might find at Chipotle but with fresh, delicious ingredients. The Taco Salad is another favorite of mine but the Carne Asada Salad is a close second. The Southwestern Caesar Salad gives you the option to add chicken, steak, or shrimp and has some Mexican ingredients like queso anejo and green chili caesar dressing. Prices here range from $8.50 to $16.95.

Specialties

You won’t be disappointed with any of these chef prepared house specialties from Gonzalez y Gonzalez. The Molcajete for two is probably one of the best and most unique options on the entire menu while the Habanero Chile Salmon is something you are definitely not going to see at every Mexican restaurant in Vegas.

Other delicious options include the Steak Picado, Skillet Rib Eye, and Camorones Mexicanos, which is Spanish for Mexican shrimp and the dish is served with poblano peppers and cilantro rice. This is one of the more expensive areas of the menu and prices range from $21.95 to $36.95.

Fajitas & Combinations

Everyone’s favorite when they get to a Mexican restaurant is the fajitas and Gonzalez y Gonzalez doesn’t disappoint. You’ll get plenty of options to choose from including Roasted Veggies, Fire Roasted Steak, Oaxacan Shrimp, Steak & Shrimp, and more. In traditional fashion, all of them come with chiles, peppers, onions, rice, and tortillas. Prices are around $22 or $23 except for the veggies which are $18.95.

The combination section is where you’ll turn to if you can’t figure out which type of Mexican food you really want. My family loves this area because you can choose two or three items between tacos, enchiladas, burritos, tamales, and chile relleno. The two-item option is $21 and the three-item is $23.

Favorites

You’ll find most of the Mexican restaurant favorites that anyone will enjoy in this section. The Shrimp and Chicken Enchilada Suiza is a delicious combination and the Chimichanga is almost enough food for two.

A more Vegas centric choice is the Mahi Mahi Veracruz which has guajillo sauce and is grilled with onions and bell peppers. Other choices include the Chicken Tamales, Chile Relleno, and Fajita Burrito. Prices will range anywhere from $17.50 to $28.95.

Tacos

All the tacos at Gonzalez y Gonzalez are served with a side of black beans and Mexican rice, so you won’t go hungry after a few small street tacos. You get your choice between six different base ingredients including crispy ground beef or chicken tinga, carnitas, fish, carne asada, and shrimp. Each one comes with a combination of fresh Mexican ingredients and prices are reasonable ranging between $15.95 and $19.95.

Desserts

Mouth-watering desserts are ready for you to devour and they look just as good as they taste. You’ll find mostly traditional Mexican desserts with one American choice mixed in.

Mexican Flan, Tres Leches Cake, Churros & Ice Cream, and Fried Ice Cream are your Mexican options while the Chocolate Lava Cake appeals to everyone. Prices are mostly $7.95 except for the flan, which is $6.95.

Drinks

The drinks at Gonzalez y Gonzalez will get you ready for any Vegas-filled fun night. They even have souvenir cactus cups that can be filled with various flavors of margaritas. Speaking of, Gonzalez has eight different marg options to choose from as well as a sangria for those summer nights. Tons of tequila options wait for the brave souls who want a shot or have a mixed cocktail.
